BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Succession planning is a critical linchpin in building the bench strength of a business into a positive long-term future, as well as a key element of business risk management. Effective management of a computer service business is incredibly important, and the ability to delegate responsibility is a critical skill for any manager. Franchisor Executive Business Management Teams need to be cognizant of the fact that each time a franchisee fails for whatever reason that there will be potential litigation.

This puts franchise organizations at a severe disadvantage and executive business management teams need to be cognizant of this fact when extending brand name outlets thru franchising in the market place. It is very important for the Franchisor Business Management Team to have in place a system, which can constantly update the information in the UFOC exhibits, which are attached to The Uniform Franchise Offering Circular. Having been in the auto services industry for over 27 years I can tell you that the car wash business is one business which is always concerned with change management and often they lack succession plans as well.

This is because car wash businesses are generally a cash business and it is really hard to trust the labor or management from stealing the cash. Both the processes together give near perfect estimations, which aid in altering business policies if required and also bring about necessary changes in management procedures that enhance performance levels.

As Six Sigma fails to effectively control business processes and most of the time relies on the manual methods and control mechanism, which hampers performance initiatives greatly. When I asked how many customers actually caused a problem with payment timing now inflation was under control and what impact it had on the business, the answer was "none and none". Organizations are much flatter than in the past, which means that the hierarchy is now created by the alignment of the Mission, Vision and Values of the business, as well as by its strategic business objectives.

This is where the concepts of Business Process Management (BPM) come in. Through the Internet, you get ample options to browse through a large collection of articles related to the management of business processes. BPM tools are designed to let company executives and end users take a process-centric approach to business projects and analyze the effectiveness of those company processes. Small business inventory management software may turn out to be the best investment a small business can make.

Although it is common for corporations to want to improve existing processes for cost savings purposes, some companies may look into Business Process Management as an approach to serve new organizational needs.

People development from individuals to team building is a necessary strategy to close the gap between planning and execution within the change management process. Senior executives who developed the strategy will each have a different view of what the strategy is and middle management charged with executing the strategy will have no chance of success.

Since organizations are in business to make money through various sources of revenue, one would think that management would have a business strategy in place to ensure results are consistently being managed and achieved. When words become labels in business, strategy is replaced by individual activity as individuals try hard to put their interpretation on the nebulous direction of senior management. Therefore a business management team needs to discuss these issues of over disclosure and how they put franchising companies at a competitive disadvantage before attempting to use franchising as a method to extend brand name and reach into the marketplace.

OFFICE MANAGEMENT

The management at my office is absolutely horrible. They are so disorganized, and so they never really know what is going on. All of the employees can get away with murder, because they would never notice. A lot of the time it is great, because I am able to do things the way that I know they will get done, instead of getting micromanaged. Other times it is not as great, because people are able to push them around because they do not know any better. Honestly, on one level I feel like I could run the place. There has to be something that these people did right to get in the position that they are in, but I have not been able to figure it out yet. It really is a mystery to me. If I did not like my job and what I did so much I probably would have quit a long, long time ago. People really should not have to put up with that kind of nonsense from their bosses. It is also embarrassing that they always make mistakes, and I am the person that has to apologize for it, because they never make any face time for clients.

DECISIONS ON RELOCATION EXPENSE MANAGEMENT

My aunt was recently widowed and didn’t like living alone. With my uncle gone, she didn’t feel comfortable living in the big house all by herself. She lived in a Missouri and her son and family lived in Michigan so she had no family near to help her. She was very lonely and thought about moving close to them but had concerns about relocation expense management. Her husband had taken care of things like this before and numbers really mixed her up. She lived on a fixed income and didn’t understand all the expenses that went along with moving. Her son thought that moving would be a good idea for his mother. She would get to see her grandchildren more often and enjoy visiting with him and his wife. Her son went on the computer and found companies that deal with relocation problems. He encouraged her to call them and discuss her concerns. She was reluctant and really didn’t like telling other people about her finances. Her son assured her that these people know their business and it would really be to her advantage to use such a company. My aunt is still trying to make up her mind as to what she should do, but I hope she takes her son’s advise.

HELP WITH A CORPORATE MOVE

Sam, my lunchroom buddy, was really up-set the other day as he was running around the building like a chicken without a head. As Sam is usually a calm man I new something must be wrong. During our lunch break I asked him what was bothering him. He said he had a lot of problems trying to figure out what he had to do with regards to a corporate move. He was moving his company state-to-state and was having trouble sorting out all the rules and regulations along with getting all his equipment packed and delivered on time. He said he almost wished he never started this move. I suggested he get in touch with a relocation management company where someone would know exactly what was the best way to go about handling this. After taking my advice, he looked on the Internet for the best company to handle his affairs. He found a company whose complete relocation software applications; tax compliance services and consulting support are there for your every move. They also aided him with the relocation expense management and tax gross-up requirements. He was very pleased with the results and was glad I made such a helpful suggestion.

BUSINESS MOVE

I am looking for a relocation management company to take care of my business move for me. I live and operate my company in Florida now and for the last ten years. I decided that New York would be a better market for my company. I don’t want to tell you what I do because it is a highly competitive area and I wouldn’t want anyone to start up a business like mine in New York before I was able to get things together and get established there. All I can tell you is that I was pretty successful in Florida but then too many people caught on to what I was doing and competition got worse. I decided that it would be best to play it safe for my family and myself and to move where there would be less competition in my field. There aren’t too many moving companies that have the technology to move all my databases and company belongings so I am looking for a really high tech one that will take care of my moving needs from beginning to end and make my life a little easier. It is a big responsibility to decide just what is the correct way to go about moving a company efficiently and I want all the help I can get.

NEW POLICIES

We had a meeting last week. It lasted well into the night. I wouldn't say it was an emergency, but they wouldn't let us go home until we hammered out some new policies relating to asset management. This meant we had to first place a value on everything in our departments, both tangible and intangible. The tangible part was easy for me. We don't have a capital heavy department. It's mostly intellectual items and brand items. But placing a value on those things was harder than I thought. I had to reach back into over 15 years of annual reports and look at hard numbers. Then I had to extrapolate the value based on how the company has grown. But, I had to take into account the debate as to whether the brand items I'm responsible for has been the engine for value for the company, or the other way around. After awhile the numbers were making my head spin. Luckily Joe came along and we took a long lunch. We didn't talk business at all. I had some pasta though. Big mistake. I felt like sleeping when I got back to my cube. I did kick back and close my eyes, and then a better way of calculating the value came to me.

NEW MARKETING APPROACH

My house has been up for sale for the last eleven months. I’ve had people come and look at it, quite a few actually, but not a single bid. My realtor suggested that we lower the price by about fifteen percent to generate some more interest. I told him that he was crazy, if I sold the house at fifteen percent below what I was asking I’d still owe the bank money after I paid his fee and the closing costs. As a last effort I called in an REO management firm for a consultation. The firm sent a representative to meet with me at no charge; he appraised my home, evaluated my neighborhood and explained all of his findings and the subsequent options. He told me to fire my realtor, suggested a new one, and then explained in detail the new marketing approach he had come up with to sell my house. Within a week of adopting the new plan I already had bids on the house, above the original asking price and all I had done was make a few minor repairs that cost me virtually nothing. Now I’ve got his firm looking for a house for me in the neighborhood where I want to live, they have an office in that area and he said finding something to suit my needs within my budget shouldn’t be a problem at all.

IMPORTANCE OF GOOD HEALTH

You can’t buy good health. Good health is the most important asset we can have. That is why we really cannot afford to take it for granted. At the corporation that my cousin, Greg works at they have a program that takes into account executive health. Greg said he was able to meet with a team of health managers that reviewed his medical history. They spoke to him about his life style and habits with regard to nutrition and exercise. They then scheduled a complete medical exam for him. Depending on your need additional tests may be recommended. Afterwards they sat down with him and discussed all tests results, including nutritional status and goals for improving his daily life. They made recommendations and offered practical advice to help him maintain a healthy lifestyle. Their goal to influence your rate of aging and keep you as healthy as can be. They offer you a guide for management of any medical issues you may have. They even told Greg they would keep in touch to follow up on his health progress for a year. Greg was really glad that his company went into a partnership for health care. They figured out that a healthy employee is a better asset to the company.

EXECUTIVE WELLNESS PROGRAMS

From a management perspective, executive health programs are a beneficial method that can decrease absenteeism, reduce medical claims costs, and improve employee recruitment and retention. The company stands to gain an even healthier, more focused and energized workforce. From the executive perspective, executive wellness programs give the peace of mind knowing that a professional health team is keeping an eye on any health issue that may surface and can recommend steps to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. As the body ages there is a natural tendency to reduce the level of mental and physical activity, which in turn sets the state for what is known as stagnation. The body needs to be fine tuned and recharged, both mentally and physically. Through these executive wellness programs, companies partner together with top doctors who provide attention to each individual to make sure that they are staying on track and work with them to achieve their health goals. They make medical recommendations to help set goals to decrease risk for disease and improve overall health. The employee and employer both benefit from these programs. More businesses need to explore the many options available that will support both the employee and the employer quest for health and wellness.
