BUILDING BUSINESS
We had visited our new lawyer, and Pete, our current lawyer and family friend, went with. The cut tools business is not that difficult, at least where we were concerned. We started the business over 30 years ago with nothing, not even an address. We started on a shoestring and built it up. We then moved from our garage to a small warehouse location in the city, then moved to our current location after about 15 years. We had built the business gradually at this location for years, and had great success with it here. When the opportunity came from the government to bid on some specialized supplies for defense, we jumped at it. We were a bit naive about it all, and didn't know all the red tape that would be involved. The specifications for the contracts were many, and we went through all the many pages and additions and decided we would go ahead and try to do it. We had a good run with the initial contract, and then it came up for renewal. We bid again, and got it again. We didn't really realize the stipulation that we had to be onsite or appoint a proxie for responsibility.
