My good friend just called me and was crying so hard. I had trouble understanding her but finally got her to talk. She said she didn’t know where to turn as she was getting collection harassment calls all day long. She and her husband ran up some pretty high bills when their old car died out. They were tired of putting money into the old one and thought a new car was a better idea. They didn’t worry about the payments because her husband had a great paying job at the time. Two weeks later, his company sold to a company in a different country and moved their operations there. Her husband was out of a job. The debt of the new car plus all their other bills was just too much for them to handle. She was a stay-at-home mom raising three toddlers so she couldn’t find a job. Her husband was looking for a new job but had a hard time finding one. The only job he could find was a much lower paying one than his other job. She understands now, a little too late, how important it is to put away some money for a rainy day.
